Rhydding 5 Alderley Edge 1
AUSTRALIAN teenager Travis Taylor has only been in England for a month but he is already making an impact on the hockey field. The youngster has pace, skill and power and was instrumental in this emphatic victory.
Understrength Ben Rhydding had three key defenders unavailable but their makeshift back four, expertly marshalled by Dave Exley, was never seriously troubled. Centre-back Johnny Schofield adapted to his new role with intelligence and discipline.
Rhydding skipper Neil Sugden, playing despite a troublesome knee injury, broke up a series of Alderley Edge attacks. The Cheshire side could only manage a single goal, scored by their Australian Olympic bronze medallist Baden Choppy.
By contrast Ben Rhydding's raids were direct, fast and incisive. The home side were rewarded with goals from Rippon (2), and Lambert (3). The star of the show though was the man from Perth, Travis Taylor.
