Two men have been killed in separate car smashes in Bradford over the weekend.
An investigation has been started by the Independent Police Complaints Commission after a 30-year-old man died when his car crashed into a telegraph pole as he was being followed by police.
And a 17-year-old from Girlington died when his car was in collision with a parked car.
The 30-year-old died following the incident at about 1.20am yesterday after police officers spotted a Honda Civic being driven erratically in Bolton Road, Bradford.
The driver refused signals to stop but almost immediately the vehicle smashed into a telegraph pole near the Ital Italian restaurant, said a West Yorkshire police spokesman.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 25-year-old man who was in the car was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary. His injuries were not thought to be life threatening. Paramedics and firefighters gave first aid treatment to one of the casualties.
The police spokesman said the car had not been reported stolen.
The West Yorkshire Police Professional Standards Department has been informed of the incident and the Independent Police Complaints Commission has also been notified.
Yesterday one resident, who did not want to be named, said: "People go flying up and down this road it's crazy."
In the other incident a 17-year-old man from Girlington died after his car collided with a parked car and a wall outside Undercliffe Cemetery on Otley Road on Saturday night.
The 17-year-old driver was initially taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary but has died from his injuries. The 16-year-old passenger is currently in a stable but critical condition at Leeds General Infirmary.
The accident occurred at 7.45pm on Saturday, when the grey Honda Civic was travelling along Otley Road towards the city centre and collided with a parked blue Ford Mondeo and the cemetery wall.
Firefighters from Idle, Fairweather Green and Rawdon attended the scene and used hydraulic equipment to cut off the roof of the car to free the two occupants of the car.
Anyone with information about this incident or the movements of the Honda prior to the accident is asked to contact Bradford North Road Traffic Helpdesk on 01274 376259.
