The Decorator -- Keighley Playhouse

At first glance there didn't seem to be enough plot to keep this three-person comedy going through two acts.

But strong characterisations, strong production and occasional strong language contributed to a entertaining two hours.

Adulterous Marcia persuaded her decorator to pose as her husband when her lover's vengeful wife called around.

The handyman, an out-of-work actor, had to fool Jane into telling the wrong man about the affair.

The fun -- which came in hilarious bursts -- centred on the clash of personalities and attempts to pull off by deception.

Gilly Rogers was terrific, with another almost-mad middle-class woman, hunching, twitching and prattling with manic energy.

Debbie Bowman also played to her strengths, her working-class harridan dropping profanities and dripping insults with glee.

Julian Freeman had a great time between these two, switching accents and characters with a spot-on portrayal of the loopy actor.

Producer Geoff Whitley kept the story moving at the right pace with his customary ease.

Strictly Ballroom Dancing - Bradford Alhambra

Perhaps it was cashing in on the hit BBC shows, but while it had the same formula the stage show had some magic of its own.

We were treated to a live band and vocals, wonderful costumes and of course spectacularly fancy footwork. From the rhumba to the quickstep, cha-cha to the last waltz, there was a style of dance for everyone.

A vibrant and reminiscing Lionel Blair and Yorkshire girl Jane McDonald were the ideal hosts, while singers Simon Coulthard and Kate Hudson were wonderfully energetic.

If you are tempted to go see the show because of Strictly Dance Fever runners-up Jodie Binsteed and Danny Best, then don't.

On its own merits the show is well worth seeing, however I felt Jodie and Danny were shown up by the other professional couples, with Jodie unable to keep time within the group dances.
