As always, Bradford people have risen to a challenge. We kicked off the Save Our City appeal just two weeks ago in a bid to see the Bantams safely into the new season and enable them to impress the Football League that they would be able fulfil their fixtures. And you have entered into the spirit of things magnificently.
Money has come pouring in: from companies, families, pensioners, pubs and clubs, groups of workers, school pupils...Many of the people who have contributed are not even diehard fans but simply Bradfordians who appreciate just what the survival of the club means to this city.
It has been a magnificent effort so far. Sunday's Pro-Celebrity All-Stars match at Valley Parade is all set to make it better still. Local companies have been generous with their sponsorship of the team, the match ball, the man of the match and individual players. And others have been rushing to sponsor match minutes at £100 a time. We have literally been overwhelmed.
Saving City has become a cause the Bradford business community has taken on board with great enthusiasm because they appreciate, as we do, how vital it is to local morale. A club which is a success, as City surely will be again, is good for business.
Sunday is the chance for ordinary Bradfordians to show the world what the club means to them. A packed Valley Parade will not only raise lots of much-needed cash but will send out a powerful message to the Football League that the people of this city stand solidly behind the Bantams and are willing them to survive.
