Volunteer is on the right track

From the Telegraph & Argus, first published Thursday 26th Sep 2002.

A Keighley man has won a top award for his dedication to voluntary work.

Paul Holroyd, of the Vintage Carriages Trust at Ingrow Railway Centre, scooped the coveted volunteers' category prize in the Servicemark Customer Service Awards.

He and other prizewinners from the Yorkshire and Humber region received their awards from BBC Look North presenter Christa Ackroyd at a ceremony in Leeds.

They were then treated to a celebration dinner aboard the Orient Express.

Mr Holroyd was nominated by Jackie Cope, curator at Ingrow Railway Centre, for the "dedication and enthusiasm" he shows in his work.

He won special praise for building a rapport with film and TV companies which use the trust's collection in productions.

And tribute was paid for the friendly way in which he greets visitors to the trust's museum.

Etta Cohen, manager of Servicemark Yorkshire and Humber, said world-class standards of customer service were essential for organisations seeking to build and retain business.

Richard Gregory, deputy chairman of Yorkshire Forward, which operates Servicemark Yorkshire and Humber, added: "The idea when the awards started was quite simple: to enable us -- the customers -- to honour the people who day in, day out, work hard to give us the best possible service and to inspire the rest of us to follow their example."
