From the Telegraph & Argus, first published Saturday 4th Dec 1999.
A Riddlesden man claims he is kept awake by noisy parties at East Riddlesden Hall.
Andrew Gill, 38, of Westlea Avenue, is the first person to officially object to the hall's entertainment licence in 15 years.
Engineer, Mr Gill, who has lived in his home for 14 years, says: "Since the introduction of using East Riddlesden Hall for weddings, parties etc., my Friday/Saturday nights have become intolerable."
East Riddlesden Hall provides facilities for weddings, parties, musical performances, plays and various other events.
It was first licensed for events in 1984 and has renewed this every year since, apart from 1992, without opposition. But it has only been used as a wedding venue in recent years.
Mr Gill says: "We have shouting and so as the guests converge on the green outside the hall. The noise is such a level that we cannot hear our television over it.
"In the summer, we have to `sweat it out' and sleep with all windows closed if we stand any chance of trying to get some sleep."
Ana Chylak, East Riddlesden Hall's property manager says: "We have not had any complaints during the season. Weddings are private functions not covered by the entertainment licence; that just covers public functions."
These include exhibitions and concerts and anything open to the general public.
Ana states that weddings and private functions help fund maintenance and preservation of the hall.
