The Chesterfield rider followed his father Dave's footsteps taking the title but has yet to match Thorpe senior who took the title for three consecutive years in the mid-seventies. 100 years ago: Concerned residents in Burnsall were calling for a ban on visitors who could be carrying infectious diseases. An epidemic of measles had broken out among the village's children after a family had visited the area with their two youngsters, one of whom had the measles and another who was recovering from the disease. It was said that if the rural district council could do nothing to stop outsiders bringing infection into the village then perhaps the lodging house keepers could ask for proof that their potential lodgers were germ free.
